Government Finance Professional Development Scholarship: Supporting Part-Time Students in Public Sector Finance
In 2010, the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) took a significant step to support the advancement of professionals in state and local government finance by establishing the Government Finance Professional Development Scholarship. This initiative specifically caters to part-time graduate students who are currently employed in the public sector, reflecting GFOA’s commitment to fostering continuous learning and professional growth in government finance.
Eligibility and Opportunity
The scholarship is designed for individuals who are balancing their professional responsibilities with part-time academic pursuits. Here are the key eligibility criteria:
- Citizenship: Open to citizens or permanent residents of the United States or Canada.
- Career Aspiration: Aimed at those planning a career in state, provincial, or local government finance.
- Employment Background: Applicants must have at least two years of employment experience with state or local governments.
- Enrollment Status: Candidates must be enrolled in a part-time graduate program.
- Academic Focus: Fields of study include public administration, (governmental) accounting, finance, economics, or business administration with a government focus.
- Letter of Recommendation: One recommendation should be from an employer, and another from someone familiar with the applicant’s commitment to the public sector.
